Project Description

The current vac truck is antiquated, unsafe and undependable. The goal is to replace it with a hi-quality used truck since new truck are out of the Cities funding parameters. It will take some time to find the right truck and it will need to be purchased using the State Procurement Process.

July 2020 went through Buy Decision found that Vac Truck was outside the City’s budget. Justification for special procurement of a used Vac Truck.

August 2020 

  • started search in open market for used Vac Truck. 
  • Located six trucks that were within the City’s budget. 
  • Began reviewing the trucks to meet Public Works criteria. 
  • Narrowed the list to three. 
  • Public Works leads Rick McClung and David Buckwald went to inspect trucks in person.
  • One truck met criteria and budget. 

September 2020

Started contract negotiations.

Project Justification

This piece of equipment has become Public Works most valuable asset, not only in cost but in labor savings as well. For example, it would take two workers 2-3 hours to pothole for underground utilities where now it might take 0.5 -1 hour with the Vac truck. The ability to clean and clear sewer mains fast and efficiently
