Dear Yachats,

We are coordinating with the American Red Cross and other groups to provide assistance for people evacuating the fires.

This includes the possibility of accommodating evacuees at the Commons. We’ve also been communicating with our local hotels and vacation rentals about room availability and local restaurants about preparing food. We will provide more information about these possibilities as soon as it is available.

In the meantime, we are helping collect donations that we will be sending to Toledo so that they can be distributed to evacuees.

We are collecting the following types of items for donation:
• Hygiene materials (soap, shampoo, deodorant)
• Blankets and towels
• Pillows
• Ready-to-eat food (things that can be eaten right out of the package)
• Dog food and cat food
• Camping gear

Please bring donated items to Yachats City Hall at the Yachats Commons during operating hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Knock on the back door employee entrance by the playground.

Donations will be taken as they arrive; however, there is an urgent need for displaced families in the County.

We’re not able to accept cash donations at this time. For verified disaster relief organizations, please refer to Oregon Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (ORVOAD), www.orvoad.org. These organizations include the American Red Cross, Team Rubicon, Salvation Army, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, and other relief organizations. Also consider donating to groups like Wildland Firefighters Fund.

Thank you,
Shannon Beaucaire
City Manager
