Detailed History

A task force was formed to study potential uses of the 501 Building after the City purchased the property.  The Council explored options to establish a manufacturing plant for wind turbines, using the space for events, and  moving either the Library or City Hall into the space.  The City also explored selling the property while retaining rights to the parking.  After reviewing options, seeing that the work space in the current City Hall was inadequate,  and under pressure to not let the building remain unused, the City Council decided the space would be best used for City Hall. On November 7, 2018, the City Council agreed with the recommendation from the Library Commission to expand the current Library rather than to move the Library to the 501 Building.  Council agreed to proceed with moving City Hall to the 501 Building.
